Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can children come on the tour?
A: The Beer Makes History Better tour is for adults 19+ only. The other tours are designed with adults in mind but several families have enjoyed our Kensington Market & Chinatown tour.

Q: I bought a coupon (Groupon, Living Social, Team Buy, WagJag, etc) and don’t know how to use it to book a tour. Can you help?
A: There are booking instructions right on the coupon. There is a promotional code in those instructions which you enter when booking which brings the total cost to zero since you’ve already paid. You MUST bring that coupon with you on your tour as proof of payment.

Q: It’s raining/cold/windy/snowing. Can I cancel or re-book?
A: Our tours run rain or shine. We ask for at least 48 hours notice of a cancellation or re-booking.

Every year we receive many inquiries from people interested in working for us. We’re flattered that so many people think we would be a fun company to work for. Unfortunately, we aren’t a big company with dozens of openings that look to hire new people all the time. Fortunately, we are always on the lookout for two kinds of people to work with:

1. Unpaid Student Interns

If you are a student looking for an unpaid internship to pad your resume and gain some incredible experience in local tourism, you might be in luck. We are looking for people to help us with the following:

Representing us at public events and trade shows

Visiting hotels and hostels to deliver posters and info

Photographing tours and shooting video blogs

Social media work (Facebook, Twitter, blogs)

Content development (writing about Toronto and Vancouver, our tours)

Experience and Qualities we seek:

EXTREMELY outgoing, friendly, and entertaining

Able to work with teenagers, adults and seniors

Completely in love with Toronto or Vancouver

Extensive local knowledge

Experience speaking and performing in front of an audience

Professional attitude and able to deal directly with hotel concierges and staff

How to Apply:

Send us a link to a YouTube video of yourself explaining who you are, where you go to school, what you want to gain from an internship with us and (most importantly) WHAT MAKES YOU AWESOME! This is your chance to sell yourself to us. Consider it an audition rather than an application. Have fun with it. We are a fun company – but small – and we want to work with an intern that can work independently as needed and is as ambitious and success-driven as we are! Email the link to your video to info@tourguys.ca!

2. Tour Guides (part-time as needed)

Being a small company, we have a small core team of guides who do the bulk of our tours. However, we are always looking for new guides to add to our roster and help us when we get really busy during the summer months. We aren’t able to offer full-time work and all of our guides are independent contractors and invoice us for the tours they do .

We aren’t your typical tour company, so we don’t hire typical tour guides. Our tour guide roster is made up of comedians, teachers, musicians, artists, writers, and actors. All are either from Toronto or Vancouver, or have resided there long enough to understand the city as a local would. The primary role of our guides is to entertain our guests and treat them like new friends. Below is a list of what we look for in a guide:

Incredibly likable, engaging and entertaining

Outgoing, sociable, and eager to meet new people

The ability to win the hearts of people aged 12-102

Local knowledge of the key areas we tour (check our tour list)

A solid understanding of general Toronto and Vancouver (and Canadian) history

The ability to create your own tour based on our guidelines – we don’t use scripts!

Experience in comedy, acting, music, or other performance

How to Apply:

So, if you think you have what it takes to join our team of guides, shoot a video of yourself explaining what makes you an amazing tour guide, your experience, and anything else you think will help win us over. Then upload it to YouTube, send us a link to the video! Think of it as an audition tape and have some fun with it! Email the link to info@tourguys.ca!

Some people see it as public art that beautifies our streets, while others see it as vandalism indicative of urban decay and crime. Whatever you think, it’s an always changing, inescapable and fascinating part of our culture. On this 2-hour tour, you’ll stroll the back alleys and laneways of downtown Toronto with an expert local tour guide and learn about the history of graffiti, the different forms and styles, and the controversial place it occupies in our urban landscape.

Our graffiti tour begins with a brief introduction to the subject and covers the primary types of graffiti – from “tags” to “throw-ups” to “pieces”. Afterwards, your guide will take you through an area of downtown Toronto with a reputation for having some of the best examples of street art in the city: Rush Lane (a.k.a. “Graffiti Alley”).

While strolling and viewing the graffiti your guide will discuss the many sides of the graffiti issue and viewpoints of property owners, the police, the City of Toronto, the general public, and the graffiti artists themselves. This tour encourages debate and discussion – it’s more than just looking at painted walls. Even “haters” will agree that much of the art on this tour is incredible!

This tour is also available as a school trip or private group tour.
