Understanding the Writing on the Walls

Graffiti. Some people see it as public art that beautifies our streets, while others see it as vandalism indicative of urban decay and crime. Whatever you think, it’s an always changing, inescapable and fascinating part of our culture.

This 90-minute “pay what you feel” walking tour takes you through an amazing grid of painted alleys and laneways. With an expert local tour guide, we’ll delve into the history of graffiti, explore all opinions, learn about the artists’ methods and ultimately gain a better understanding of this worldwide phenomenon. While strolling and viewing the graffiti your guide will discuss the many sides of the graffiti issue and viewpoints of property owners, the police, the City of Toronto, the general public, and the graffiti artists themselves.

Bonus: it’s cool to look at! Whether or not you agree with their placement, you’ll undoubtedly find that some of these graffitis are masterful works of art. Bring your Instagram!
