The Tour Guys Difference

Since 2010, Tour Guys has been helping students experience Toronto through curriculum-connected walking tours led by engaging, professional guides. It’s real-world learning, on foot, for students of all ages. We are trusted partners in educational travel.

Before founding Tour Guys, Jason and Steve spent years leading educational trips across North America and training other guides for the job. They saw firsthand how a great guide can turn a school trip into a lasting learning experience. That’s why they built a team of guides who understand how to engage students, not just lecture at them.

Our school tours are designed with teachers in mind and students at heart—combining storytelling, interaction, and local insight to make the city your classroom.

Already planning to visit a museum or other attraction? See how one of our tours can be added like special sauce to make the field trip even better!

We’ve worked with schools from across Canada and beyond, including schools from the following school boards in Ontario:

  • Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board

  • Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board

  • Durham District School Board

  • Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board

Everything You Need to Know

We’ve been leading educational walking tours in Toronto since 2009. Our tours are fun, curriculum-connected, and built to make history, geography, and civic life come alive. If you're a teacher planning a trip for your class, here's everything you need to know—from booking to tipping.

How Do I Book a School Tour?
To request a quote or make a booking, please fill out our Get a Quote form. This gives us all the info we need to:
• Check availability
• Assign the best guide(s) for your group
• Send you a detailed confirmation and invoice

Once confirmed, you’ll receive a tour confirmation email with everything you need—including a secure credit card payment link.

Do I Need to Pay a Deposit?
No deposit is required, but full payment is due at least 48 hours before your tour, which is also when our cancellation window closes.

How Do I Pay?
The easiest and preferred method is by credit card, using the secure link in your confirmation email.
We also accept direct deposit if your school requires it.

We discourage payment by cheque, as we don’t have a physical office. Mailing a cheque would require sharing a guide’s personal address. If a cheque is your only option, contact us to make arrangements.

What Grades Are Your Tours For?
Our tours are best suited for Grades 5–12, but we can adapt for younger students or post-secondary learners upon request.

How Long Are the Tours?
Most school tours run 90 minutes to 2 hours. We’re flexible—let us know your timing needs.

How Much Do They Cost?
Rates are typically $12–$20 per student, with a minimum of 20 students. This will be explained in the quote!
• Teachers and chaperones join free
• Discounts available for multiple bookings throughout the school year

How Many Students Per Guide?
We aim for 1 guide per 30 students. Groups over 50 will be divided and assigned additional guides.

Do Your Guides Have Experience with Students?
Yes. Many of our guides come from teaching, instructing, and camp backgrounds. They’re skilled at leading student groups, balancing fun with focus.

Are the Tours Curriculum-Connected?
Yes! Tours are designed to align with Ontario curriculum expectations for history, geography, civics, and more. Let us know your goals—we’ll tailor accordingly.

What If We’re Running Late?
Plan for extra travel time if you can. We allow a 10–15 minute grace period when planning our tours. Beyond that, we may shorten the tour to stay on schedule and end on time. Contact us or your guide as soon as you can.

Are the Tours Accessible for Students with Disabilities?
Most routes are wheelchair and mobility accessible, though some sidewalks may be uneven. Let us know your needs in advance and we’ll confirm a suitable route.

Are Your Guides First Aid Trained or Equipped?
Our guides do not carry first aid kits, but they are familiar with nearby public buildings and shops.
Teachers and chaperones are responsible for student medical needs, including carrying necessary medications and first aid supplies.

Do You Have Insurance?
Yes. Tour Guys is fully insured for public liability. A Certificate of Insurance can be provided on request.

What If It Rains or the Weather’s Bad?
Tours run rain or shine, unless weather conditions are dangerous. We’ll contact you if we need to cancel or reschedule. In colder months, we adjust routes for warmth and shelter.

Can We Combine the Tour with a Museum or Another Stop?
Yes! Many schools combine our tours with museum visits or cultural site stops. We’re happy to coordinate timing.

Where Do We Eat Lunch?
Our tours don’t include food, but we can recommend parks or indoor lunch spots near your route.

How Do I Thank the Tour Guide?
A thanks and a 5-star review online is the best! Tipping for school tours is not required, but always appreciated by the guide - and quite often a surprise!

Most guides accept:
• Cash
• Credit/debit Interac
• Mobile wallet apps (e.g., Square)
